The Valco Tri-Mode Stroller is a new addition to the growing assortment of swivel wheel, all terrain strollers. The Tri-Mode has garnered plenty of public attention due to a wealth of celebrity endorsements and its high quality, high-price status amongst the competition. While the Tri-Mode is definitely on the higher end of the price spectrum for swivel wheel strollers, a laundry list of parent-oriented conveniences make up the difference. In terms of storage space, rider comfort, car seat compatibility, and unique features, the Valco Tri-Mode is as good as they come.

Why is this stroller called the "Tri-Mode"?

Valco has devised a unique swivel wheel system that can be set to three separate 'modes'. The first is full 360-degree orientation for total maneuverability in tight spaces, like department stores or busy sidewalks. The second mode is 45-degrees of forward mobility, which allows for tighter tracking on long walks where tight turns are not as common. The third mode fixes the front wheel forward for better control on trails and rugged terrain—even on a light jog.

What parent-oriented features set the Valco Tri-Mode apart from other, similar swivel wheel strollers?

The Valco Tri-Mode has a number of imaginative features that give it a 'wheel-up' on the competition . . . and all of them are oriented toward convenience for parents and comfort for the child rider. For starters, the new footplate above the wheel is perforated so that water and grime from the little one's shoes won't pool up, and the plate can be easily rinsed clean.

There is a TON of storage space, including and extra large underside storage basket with zipper access at the rear. Valco w/Toddler Seat

As a single stroller, this is a *fabulous* purchase. Unfortunately, I bought it specifically to use as a double stroller when I was pregnant w/Number 2. I already had three strollers (ugh!) but none had the possibility of conversion to a double. I loved the idea of putting my son in a "captain's seat" up front, allowing my children to be at relatively the same height (unlike Phil & Ted's) and not having to push around a double-wide. Sadly, after only 9 months of use, I can't really use this as a double anymore. My daughter is about 29" long, and when her brother sits in the toddler seat her legs are smashed beneath it. I met a mom at the park last week who told me she loved her old Valco w/toddler seat, and apparently the older version sat up higher, thus alleviating this problem. I don't know why Valco chose to change a design that apparently made more sense. Unfortunately for me, I forked out a lot of cash for a stroller that now no longer serves its purpose (since I still have all those other singles -- ugh again!), and I now need to find another double. Truly disappointed. :-(

The Valco Hitch Hiker

The Valco stroller wchich I purchase after I was looking for the perfect strolle- is awesome. Smooth ride, very light (for three wheels stroller), great material and a lot of choices comes with. But may consider or maybe sugestion for next - better solution is the Hitch Hiker ride on..Yes is great solution for older kids , but could you make a step a little bit longer and maybe little sit attached? Then I will consider the stroller to perfect!!!

Great Jogging Stroller

Love this stroller! Looks great & rolls like a dream. Car seat adapter was a little awkward to figure out, but once we knew what to do it was very versatile & lets baby go from car to stroller without being woken up! Also love the removable bassinet for the same reason. It would be great if they could provide smaller wheels for going into stores, etc., but otherwise a great stroller.

I bought this stroller for running around the neighborhood and really like it. My only complaint would be that it doesn't fold up very small, but it's the price you pay for looking good on the road.

space for feet under the toddler seat

I love the new trimode. In 3 short years I have owned 6 different prams. I do A LOT of walking and am alwasy in search of the perfect pram! The trimode when in single use is that! However when I use the toddler seat with my 11kg child in it (the instructions says it can hold up to 20kgs) the toddler seat hangs onto the pram seat itself so that my baby in the rear has no where for his feet to go! Ive looked at all the photos available and they on the valco website and they depict that there is a lot of room. perhaps I have missed a critical step in the set up?

Tri Mode with Toddler Seat

I purchased the Tri-Mode with a toddler seat about 5 months ago for my newborn and 2-year old toddler and have been very happy with it. I was not interested in purchasing a tandem double-stroller or a side-by-side, as my toddler was not using a stroller much anymore and generally prefers to walk; but we needed something that could serve as an occasional double-stroller. It came down to a decision between the Valco and the Phil & Ted's. They're both about the same weight and fold to about the same size. We chose the Valco for 2 main reasons - first, I was just not into the idea of the child in the attachment seat of the Phil & Ted's sitting so close to the ground and able to reach over and play with the dirty wheels, and the wheel guards didn't seem to me to be able to prevent this. Second, I disliked that the storage basket of the Phil & Ted's is lost with a second child, as it becomes the space for his feet. Hanging a bag from the handlebar of the Phil & Ted's did not appear to be a viable option, as anything but a very small bag would interfere with the child in the back seat. Additionally, there were a couple of other features of the Valco that I liked - the ratcheting canopy, the quality of the material, and the fact that it just seemed more solidly built. My toddler absolutely loves the toddler seat of the Valco - for a kid who loves to walk, he never hesitates to climb right into it for a ride. I think he just loves riding high up. One downside of the Valco is that with the toddler in front, it becomes somewhat more difficult to maneuver (with one child, it turns on a dime), as the heavier child is centered over the front swivel wheel; I'm not sure, but I suspect that the weight of 2 children might be more evenly distributed with the Phil & Ted's. Additionally, the toddler in front can't nap in the Valco as the seat is too short, but my toddler no longer naps in his stroller, so it wasn't an issue for us. Overall, the Valco was the right choice for us and we've been very happy with it.

i love/hate my strollers!

I purchased my Valco Runabout Tri Mode about 5 months ago. I am an agonizer. I spent months trying to decide which is the right stroller, for the right price. (And this is my second major stroller- first one got smushed in a car accident) I was looking for the same thing that every other modern mom wants- everything! Of course, you can't have it all, so I finally decided the smooth ride and expandability of the Valco were the most important features. This really is a great stroller. It's very sturdy, turns on a dime, has a great break system, fantastic storage, and my 9 month-old seems to be very comfy in it. BUT it is bulky- as ALL jogging strollers are. (Oh, I should mention, I don't jog, so haven't actually used it in the fixed wheel position). Realistically, I probably should have gone w/a Bugaboo, which despite it's 2 step fold, is still much easier to cart around. (But my husband would have divorced me for spending that much on a stroller, and I really like having him around!) Getting the Valco up and down stairs is ridiculous (again, as any jogging stroller would be). Due to it's cumbersome nature, I don't take it w/me to the mall, etc. I do have a small SUV, so it fits in the trunk, but again, is quite cumbersome. SO, if you just want a cool-looking and very nice, high quality stroller to take to the park, the farmers market, long walks, etc, this is a GREAT stroller! (I also have the UV protection zip-on bug net, which is super cool, practical, and easy to use.) If you want portability....keep looking! (I'm looking into the Bee now...hmmm!)

Bugaboo or Valco? Cool space age baby pram

Pros: The bassinette that comes with the Valco is the BEST one. It is even better than the Bugaboo, for less money. Large sized and well padded, You can use the Bassinette all the time at home and when traveling as a bed for your little one(till about 4 months).Valco sells a separate stand for the Bassinette which is very secure. The bassinette is also good for longer walks before your baby can sit up. The car seat adapter also works well for use before your baby can sit up, (although it comes with NO instructions-we had to search for pictures online) You might be better off not using the carseat adapter all the time. this is because, although you may not be thinking of this, but "flat heads" are on the rise in new babies(that's what the helmets are for--I am a physician so I think about these things), and the carseat is a main contributor toward flat head, so you are better off taking your baby out of the carseat and putting him or her in the bassinette in the stroller if he is going to be there more than a few minutes. Plus, they sleep really well in there. You can do errands or go on a walk without guilt that you shortchanging your baby's nap. Also, when your baby gets older and you put the seat on instead of the Basinette, the Valco goes into the car with the seat still on it. For the bugaboo, you have to take the whole seat off to put it in the car and it's a pain. It feels VERY stable when you push it. Cons: the wheelbase is wide-I have taken the paint off some of my doors. The three wheel system is "clunkier" for non-jogging than the four wheel sytem (like the Bugaboo) but more stable for bad weather (not much of that here). It is still pretty big even when collapsed. It fits easily in my SUV but not in my husband's Honda. If you buy this, you will still need a cheap little every day four wheel stroller for quick errands. Just accept it. Overall, because of the bassinette and the toddler seat, this one does well in terms of being flexible as your needs change, because I cannot afford to keep buying strollers! Be prepared, if you get it with the Basinette and go places with the bassinette on, it looks like this cool space age baby pram, and people will stop you constantly to ask where you got it. The black stroller with the black bassinette (the one I have) looks a bit "Adams Family" (which I like, but you may not) so you might want to go for color.

Short Straps

Overall we have really liked this stroller. It was interesting getting used to the wheels being wider than the frame (I ran it into MULTIPLE displays at stores), but it's very easy to maneuver and the adjustable handlebar is great for tall people like us. I agree that the basket is inaccessible when the seat is reclined. The issue we have is while my son is only 4 months old, he's tipping the scales at 19 lbs and 28 inches and the waist straps are too short. When he's bundled up it's a really tight squeeze and the straps are already fully extended. We have ordered an extender from the store we bought the stroller from (they said they have heard of this problem before several times), but given the high price tag I would have expected a simple thing like this to be taken care of. I emailed Valco and did not receive a reply. I'm finding now that we've used it a fair bit I would really like a drink holder, so I'll be picking one up shortly and am considering the matching diaper bag.
