Our Review of the Baby Jogger City Mini Single stroller

View Product Demo

The latest edition to the City Series is the ultra-light Baby Jogger City Mini, designed for the city dweller seeking the quality of a Baby Jogger stroller in a package that is lighter than most cheap umbrella strollers.  The City Mini rolls smoothly on 8" compact EVA foam tires wheels and a unique front-wheel suspension system. Best yet, it weighs less than 17 lbs! Never before has there been a Baby Jogger stroller more suited for travel than the City Mini.

Is it for you?

Best for: Urban and suburban parents with 1 small child who need a stroller for everyday walking, errand running, and travel.

WHY YOU WILL LOVE IT

The all new City Mini is unique for its style as well as its small stature. This light and maneuverable stroller provides the fastest fold imaginable, riding on the same quality aluminum frame that made the original City Series strollers so popular. In action on the street or folded up tightly in your trunk, closet, or the belly of an airplane, the City Mini single is sure to get you and your child just about anywhere you want to go.

Convenience

The City Mini is equipped with Baby Jogger's patented Quick-Fold Technology, allowing you to fold the entire stroller by lifting a single handle in the seat, making it even more travel friendly than any previous offering from Baby Jogger. For added convenience while traveling, the City Mini's 8" wheels are fitted with special quick-release mechanisms that allow you to get them on and off fast and easy. There's an ample storage basket beneath the seat and smaller pockets behind it for your necessities.

There is a fantastic assortment of Baby Jogger accessories, like weather covers and a car seat adapter, that allow you to customize and enhance the versatility of your City Series stroller. The universal accessory mounting bracket allows all the City Mini to accept all Baby Jogger City Series accessories.

Pushability

The light new City Mini stroller is extremely easy to push on even terrain, and simple to manage when you return to your car or home, thanks to its small wheels and unique front suspension system.

Unlike many swivel wheel strollers, the front wheel of the City Mini does not have the option of locking forward, nor does it have an adjustable height handle. Regardless of these minor differences, the City Mini rolls best over smooth paved surfaces, and for city living or short trips to the mall or store, you really couldn't ask for much more.

WHY BABY WILL LOVE IT

A child up to 33 lbs can accompany mom or dad on walks long or short in the padded comfort of the Baby Jogger City Mini - comfortable, secure, and shaded. Comfort features like the deep, padded seats and safety harness, as well as the reclining seat are in place to assure your child remains relaxed and secure while you push your way through the day.

Comfort

The Baby Jogger City Mini is equipped with a 5-point harness with padded shoulder straps. The deep seat is thickly padded and drops back to a near full recline.  When open, the seat is well ventilated to allow air to flow through, and a drop down weather cover allows you to close the mesh back when the weather is cool or rainy.

Baby Jogger strollers offer some of the biggest and best retractable sun canopies on the market for maximum shading of your precious passenger. There is also a clear view window on the top of the canopy with magnetic enclosures, so you can keep an eye on the little one while you stroll.

Safety

  • Meets or exceeds all ASTM standard
  • 5-point harness
  • Parking brake
  • Reflective stitching
  • JPMA Certified

Comparison

The City Mini is certainly light and maneuverable, but its weight capacity (50 lbs.) somewhat limits it's long-term usability. For a stroller with nearly identical features but a weight capacity of 75 lbs, check out the popular Baby Jogger City Classic, or the new fashion forward Baby Jogger City Elite.

For a similar light and tight-folding stroller with a unique look and features, take a peek at the Quinny Zapp, one of our hottest European strollers. The well-styled Valco Latitude features a front swivel wheel that locks forward. The Latitude also comes complete with a bumper bar, rain cover, boot cover, and car seat adapter.

      THE BEST STROLLER. PERIOD!

All the raves online ARE TRUE- this stroller does really rock! in 10 short months I've had the bugaboo frog (rediculous), quinny buzz (huge and heavy), peg pliko (huge piece of plastic), and bob revolution (just too much jogger for my non-jogging needs). FINALLY I have the PERFECT stroller for our needs- daily walks with the dog and shopping! The Baby Jogger City Mini folds way too easy, its amazing. The canopy is fab like the BOB, and it has TWO windows to see baby. Did I mention it looks so sleek? Much better than the boring Bugaboos i'm always seeing. MOST importantling for us mall hoppers- my big ju ju be tote does not tip the stroller when baby is taken out! I cannot believe this stroller cost 1/4 of the Bugaboo- and check out all of the accessories baby jogger makes for the mini- parent console, belly bar, child tray, car seat holder....does bring up the price, but it's so cheap to begin with, who cares? For baby #2 i will be getting the Baby Jogger City Mini double for sure!

      This stroller ROCKS!

If you are looking for a lightweight stroller that actually maneuvers well, easy to fold, has a great sun canopy and is well equipped with many accessories, then buy this stroller now!!! I did extensive research on MANY lightweight strollers (returning all of them and figuring I was never going to find what I wanted in a stroller before I found this one)... nothing compares to the Mini! And it is only 17bls. I can take my son out, hold him in one arm, fold the stroller at the same time and throw it in the trunk of the car. Amazing. The canopy is the bomb! What a concept to actually make a stroller where the canopy can literally cover the child from the sun (unlike so many other lame canopies out there) and has 2 peekabo windows (got to love that). A lightweight stroller that has a child tray, not many out there and this one is awesome. My son does sit a little low right now for the tray (since the stroller has a deep seat) -he is 17 mo's - but he has no problem reaching his crackers and has a cup holder too! It has 2 baskets (one under neath and one behind the seat) that work out just fine for us. And you can lower the back of the seat all the way down if the child falls asleep. I also purchased the parent console, which is nice to have, but at times is a bit inconvenient because of the way it sits, but still works just fine for snacks, cell phone, drink, etc. Overall I am in love with this stroller and only wished I found it earlier...Buy it... you won't regret it! We love it!!!

      Design Flaw?

Wish I could rate it higher, but I have one problem with it. My stroller has all the major components for the front wheel assembly to lock in the forward position (working grey lever, cross support for the locking pin and extra hole for the necessary locking pin). However, the locking pin was not included. Upon requesting the locking pin, I was turned away by 2 different people at Baby Jogger. Here's the latest response I got from them: "The Mini wheels have always had the gray lever and the two holes. The larger hole is so the wheel can connect to the frame?s wheel axle, and the rear hole was left empty with no locking pin. As the City Mini is not a jogging or running stroller, there is no standard requirement or mandatory reason why the front wheel of the Mini must have the swivel/lock feature. Therefore, for specific reasons - one to keep the Mini at a certain price point, we did not initially add this feature to the City Mini." Why include all the major components of the locking feature and leave out one simple piece (the locking pin). I feel misled and that Baby Jogger's customer service is poor at best, so buyer beware.

I use the subway a lot and this is great for my small-for-her-age 4 month old. It has a full recline and an easy fold. I fold it and carry it up and down subway steps. Very useful.

      A perfect small stroller

Reviewer: Anonymous , Vienna, Austria Date: April 12, 2008
I did a lot of research on strollers for traveling. Our 3.5 y.o. does not usually need a stroller anymore but was not going to be able to do all the walking in Bush Gardens and New York City. So I needed an easy to fold, small enough stroller to take on the plane and a stroller still tall enough so she could fit inside. I received it really fast (great customer service, super fast shipping)and am so happy with it. No more painfull manouvering of a 35 Ibs kid in an umbrella stroller! Thank you for finally making a small jogging (rather walking) stroller.

      Great Stroller for Non-joggers!!

Reviewer: Anonymous , Palm Springs, California Date: January 07, 2008
If you are the type of parent who wants a jogging stroller for trips to the park or other outdoor adventures, sans jogging, this stroller is for you. Otherwise, buy a BOB if you seriously are going to run. This stroller is extremely easy to fold, just grab a strap in the middle and pull - viola! The sun canopy is also great as it extends further than most others and includes windows for viewing your little one. It pushes easily, uses only one action to engage the brakes, and the wheels handle dirt trails with ease. At 8 inches, the wheels are not imposing, and it will fit in the smallest of trunks. It has adequate storage and the back recline is so-so, but if it's storage you are looking for i.e. shopping trips or long excursions and comfort, get a Peg Perego Pliko P3. For the airport and limited space, buy a Maclaren. Hope this helps!
